Sex: An Energetic Perspective

Energetics of Sex:  Perspective on Connection, Creation, and Consciousness

In shamanic wisdom, everything is energy. The physical world is simply a denser expression of the spiritual realm. From this lens, human beings are not separate from spirit—we are the bridge between realms. Our physical bodies exist in the “middle world,” a kind of energetic train station that connects the higher and lower dimensions. Indeed, this passageway is the conduit that souls take to incarnate into physical bodies.

Though we appear solid, we are, at our core, energy. If we were to zoom into our bodies at the cellular level, we’d find atoms—and within them, electrons in motion. We are, quite literally, energy vibrating into form. These energetic patterns are dynamic, shaped by our consciousness, intention, and experience.

When two people press their palms together, a microscopic view would show not two separate beings, but one continuous energetic field. The boundary between them blurs. They become entangled.

This is not just a shamanic idea—it is echoed in science. Quantum physics has demonstrated a phenomenon known as quantum entanglement, where particles that have interacted remain connected across space and time, influencing each other no matter the distance. Likewise, emotional and physical intimacy between people creates energetic bonds, altering both individuals' frequencies.

Sexual interaction, from a shamanic point of view, is not about morality or cultural constructs. It’s about energy, power, and intentional connection. Some Indigenous tribes encountered by the Lewis and Clark expedition, such as the Nez Perce and Mandan, believed that sex could transmit spiritual power or attributes from one partner to another. For them, sexuality was not taboo—it was a sacred act of merging energies.

Scientific studies now show that women can retain the DNA of their sexual partners long after intercourse, a phenomenon known as microchimerism (Bayless et al., 2015). Energetically, this supports the shamanic belief that sex weaves people together in deeply influential ways.

In shamanic teachings, the word pure does not refer to moral chastity, but rather to energetic integrity—knowing who you are and what your frequency feels like. When you merge with another being sexually, their patterns can imprint on your field. If you are clear in your own energy, you can assimilate those patterns without losing yourself. But if you are unclear or fragmented, their energy may override your own.

In ancient Egypt, sexuality was honored as a sacred and vital force. Unlike later religious systems that suppressed sexual expression, Egyptian culture embraced the body and its energies as natural aspects of spiritual life. Temple rituals and mythologies often depicted fertility and erotic imagery—not as taboo, but as reflections of divine creation.

The god Atum, for example, brought forth the first deities through an act of self-pleasure. This was not seen as indulgent, but as an act of sovereign creation—life generated from within. It teaches that before sharing sexual energy with another, one must first learn to cultivate and master it alone.

Conscious self-pleasure—without pornography or other external stimulus—becomes a practice of presence and self-awareness. Rather than escaping through stimulation, we turn inward, refining our energy as a source of clarity, healing, and spiritual power. In Egyptian mystery schools, an initiate was required to "master" their own energy before engaging in sharing activities.

Sexual union is the gateway of creation. Physically, it can bring forth new life. Spiritually, it is a powerful tool for manifestation. Orgasm—considered a potent portal—was used with intention to create not only children, but realities, visions, and outcomes. This conduit of energy was a trail one could follow into higher realms of consciousness. In some esoteric traditions, orgasm was a form of prayer or spell-casting, connecting the upper, middle, and lower worlds in a single moment of unity.

This principle was so revered that many ancient cultures and secret societies used sex magick in ritual settings. Yet from a shamanic view, such practices carried risks. Energetic entanglement is real, and the more partners involved, the more complex the energetic web. Orgies and promiscuity, while not “wrong,” are viewed as high-risk spiritually due to the number of interwoven frequencies and potential links involved.

One of the most significant of these links is formed when two people create life together. This bond extends beyond lifetimes and into the spiritual realms. Co-creating a child also means becoming co-guardians of that soul’s journey, bound through energetic threads of shared responsibility and soul connection.

Sex is sacred not because it’s taboo, but because it is powerful. It was never meant to be governed by guilt or dogma, but by reverence, discernment, and awareness. Every sexual encounter is an energetic exchange—and with it comes the responsibility to understand who you are merging with, what you may be taking on, and what you may be leaving behind.

Importantly, not all energetic bonds are formed with consent. Many people have experienced sexual trauma or coercion. While these experiences may create entanglements, they do not define your spiritual destiny. Energy is not fixed. You are a sovereign being, capable of releasing any frequency that is not aligned with your highest self. Knowledge is power—and once you’ve awakened to the truth, you can’t unknow it.

Practices like soul retrieval and energetic clearing meditations can help dissolve unconscious bonds and restore your energy field to its original integrity.

In summary, shamanically, sexual bonding is a creative and evolutionary force. It’s a sacred weaving—of energies, lives, and legacies. When practiced with consciousness, sex becomes a bridge between dimensions, a ritual of union, and a path to ascension.

It is not something to fear—but something to honor, deeply and intentionally.
