Chamber of Commerce Business Interview

I recently was interviewed by a representative from the Sandy, Utah Chamber of Commerce and answered seven questions.

I thought they were great insights and decided to share here!

If you are interested in opening your own business and curious about the path I've taken- here's some thoughts to consider!

Chamber of Commerce 2025 Interview

Question 1: Tell me about starting your business and why you started it?

I started my business in 2020 after having a newborn in the pandemic with no childcare and formula shortages, I left my career and opened my wellness studio so I could create my own hours. I had a decade experience doing freelance work in the field I now do full-time.

Question 2: What is your role/job? What sort of responsibilities do you have?

I am CEO/Owner. I manage day to day, website, scheduling, events and all capacities. I do not have employees but offer treatment rooms to practitioners that rent from me and we work as a team.

Question 3: What is your typical day?

My typical day includes marketing, email returns, graphic design, updating websites, blogging, writing, painting, and then one on one energy sessions.

Question 4: What is the best thing about owning your own business?

Question 5: What is the hardest thing about owning your own business?

The best thing about owning my own business is being the sole decision maker and creating my schedule. The hardest thing is being the sole decision maker and risk taker for the aspects of success.

Question 6: How long did it take for your business to start making money?

My business is debt free. I didn't and don't have the luxury to run a business at a loss. With 20 years experience in commission based sales income, I know how to hustle, leverage opportunities offered to me, and how to create my own opportunities when there are none. I started with no investors, and we run in the black. We have been grossing over 6 figures with a steady rise of 15-20% per year. I like to remember that entrepreneur mindset is this: "We eat what we kill." Employee mindset is pulling your chair up to the table. All success and all job security depends upon the leading edge entrepreneur who is at the front of the line.

Question 7: What advice do you have for someone wanting to start a business? What do you know now that you wish you had known when you started?

My advice is to get a business coach (not mindset) You need technical and strategic coaching and how to. A business coach who can help you navigate legalities, set up an LLC, and put the structure into place so you can make money without breaking your back. The advice I received that I would pass along is this: You wouldn't expect a sports team to rise to the top without a coach- your business is the same. I offer an online business course that teaches the logistics of starting from scratch and the basic tools I've used. Here's the link for it.
